COMMONLY ASKED QUESTIONS
We are working on and building up our inventory now. Because of the increased demand for our cottonseed mealcake in 2009, we are now moving part of the mealcake operation into a different building...inside..with heat and air...UP town..
No more freezing weather or the Souths sun-stroking heat to put up with.

Thank y'all

What Is Cottonseed Mealcake?
Cottonseed and the pulp left over after pressing the cottonseed oil out of it. This is how our old cotton gin house worked. The troughs would catch the oil and then pumped it into holding tanks for storage.
There are better ways now, and we use them. Old Murray Cotton Gin (google for a picture). I wore 1 cotton gin out but.. we replaced it.. A lot can be learned from an old cotton gin that they don't teach in schools and I still have all my fingers.
This is where the information on building our machines comes from. And yes, some of them have 6" wide leather pully belts, for those of you that remember that.
What type of machines do you use?
One of our favorites, and we USE IT EVERYDAY, is a 1938 Sears and Roebuck King Hammer Mill (the cost back then in 1938 was $83.00). She still runs as smooth today as she did back in 1938 new. Couldn't work without it.
How fast can you make mealcakes?
Mealcake slabs are made 1 at a time and Hoggum 4 at a time, so we just can't spit out a hundred or so in a day or every day.
Mealcake materials are loaded and pressed at about 1 every 8 min. or so then set out to cool and cure. Curing takes about 2 days.
Of course the machines don't every get tired but they do break down. Also there is some break time for the men working on them. We have doubled the numbers that we can make now since the new machines have been put in this week of August 19 week 2009. Just have to set the adjustments and get the kinks out..
These machines are not store bought machines, they are designed and build from the ground up by us, as a 1 of a kind and used only for this work. Maybe we could sell the machine instead? just joking....
Will it last under water?
Yes, our mealcakes are rock hard yet fish are able to nibble only, no large bits allowed, by design. Fish cannot take more than a nibble off of the mealcakes making them stay around. Helps train and keep fish in an area.. Only you know where the fish will be..something to think about there..?
How much do I use?
Pieces as small as 1" can get fish to take notice by the oil and food that drifts off of it.
How much does a big slab weight?
About 11 to 13 pounds and up.
Do stores carry this mealcake?
Yes, but some dealers forget to reorder Dealers at a Store Near You, so remind them.
If you want Our mealcake in a store near you just asked the Store people to give up a call or e-mail us or for some to just re-order.
Shipping and prices can be cut by them when ordering in bulk. This will save you money by the stores discounts and shipping rates.
How do I use mealcake around docks?
You can drill a hole through a mealcake and tie a rope to it. Throw it in the water and go fishing around it.
Is this good for fish baskets and how much to use?
Yes, a piece about the size of your hand put into the basket should be enough.
Can it be put on a hook?
Yes, but you will need to drill a hole in the new mealcakes. The old mealcakes that we use to make (we can make them if we get calls for them) could be molded onto the hook.
How do you ship this mealcake?
We use USPS and Southeastern Freight Line. The post office takes it anywhere and any weight for $10.98 Their largest boxes 12 x12 up to 70 pounds is $13.50. The people at the post office draw up when I take these heavy packages to them. They are hard to beat for the heavy weights. Plus they have a simple tracking ticket you are I can use on each package.
We havn't found anybody that can beat that price. We add nothing to shipping. SE Truck lines are the best for big loads. I can give a quote by zip code without calling out..
What is the best box size of mealcakes?
For the Hoggum Concentrated it is the 5 in a box. The Carolina Mealcake is a slab that is cut 2 or 3 times into 8" or 11 in. lengths and fits usps's boxes.
Do y'all make any other kind of mealcake slabs besides cottonseed?
Yes. After we get our inventory built up to a workable sales level, then we can look at making Fishmeal slabs or soybean slabs ect.. Other types can be made the same way as our big cottonseed slabs. Our process allows for anything I, or you can think of can be made and puyy into a slab or mini slab..
We are not limited to 1 shape or size.

We will add more as we get time..
